    I heard this on “This American Life” last night on my drive home. Listen to it if you have the time. Not really all that shocking but it’s still pretty fucking nuts.

      I heard this last night too. I thought it was real out there when the cops went to his house and were all, “You are being irrational” and dumped him in the psych ward and the guy was all, “What all I did was leave work early.” They definitely wanted to not only deny his charges, but to shut him up permanently. God only knows what would’ve happened if his dad hadn’t come for him.

        crazy stuff. I’ve been in companies where I’ve been told to reclassify problems to other types of issues so as to make statistics look right. Thats bad enough but when you have armed cops creating incidents which could go way out of control then it becomes dangerous and sometimes lethal, just look at that incident described in Springsteens song 41 shots

    Have any of you guys read the Marvel Boy mini-series by Grant Morrison and JG Jones? It’s entertaining and super trippy. Where I’m at right now, some villains who are trying to kill Marvel Boy attempt to kill him in plain sight, but to get away with it the villains disguise the gunmen as a film crew so the citizens think they’re filming a movie…

    Pretty awesome stuff right there.

      I have it in single issues. I thought it was a lot of fun. I read a rumor that Marvel was considering retroactively making it an Ultimate title some years ago but they changed their minds. I’m not sure why…maybe to distinguish No-Varr from the golden age character and the Vance Astro hero?

    I went to a comic store that I don’t usually frequent today because they had a massive sale going on. I got some good stuff while I was there, including some horror comics from the 70s and Detective Comics #359 (1st Batgirl), but I was still a little disappointed with my shopping trip. “Why?” you ask. Well, because I was hoping to buy some trades from publishers other than Marvel and DC and the store had very little to offer on that front. In fact, they didn’t have much other than stuff from the big two and collections of Walking Dead and Buffy. This is a good-sized store that we’re talking about, so it’s all the more shameful that they don’t offer their clients a better selection and don’t support smaller publishers. It’s really in stark contrast to my comic shop of choice which is a tiny place that packs their shelves with a wide variety of books. They’ve even got a section of the store devoted entirely to European comics.

      That’s too bad, but still you got the first appearance of Batgirl! I’d walk out of that store with the biggest grin ever! I’m surprised you found one for an affordable price (I’m assuming…)

          I was just curious. Sometimes folks here and other places have mentioned not being near decent comic book stores or having limited choices. When I read those stories I feel lucky that I live in Chicago and have options when it comes to getting comics whether it’s indie or mainstream.

            I’m actually really lucky.There are lots of comic stores in the Montreal area and there are six or so that are within walking distance from my home. There are more than that if you include the shops that only sell European comics.

              That’s cool. The store closest to me closed recently, but there are a couple that are in reasonable distance. If those places fail me, there’s always the internet. Thankfully, I haven’t had too many bad experiences online.

                Yeah, l hear ya. About 10yrs ago, when there was only one comicbookstore within reachable distance, it moved 2 where l wasn’t comftorble bussing it. Three months, or so later, hangin’ w/ a buddy of mind that was driving, l spotted what appeared 2 be a “comics” sign outta corner of my eye, so l asked my bud 2 make a quick looksee, & l was right, then about seven yrs after that, l found another shop. l count myself 4tunate 4 having two shops 2 be able 2 go 2, although l’m still waiting 4 that “Detroit” comicbookstore. (l think l’ll have a long wait :-) )

    I would like to send out our heartfelt and serious concern for all those members of the IMJ Nation™ who may be– or have family and friends who may be– affected by the earthquake that just rocked Turkey.

    On a note closer to home, I also want to say that I am happy IMJ Nation™ member Hack/Slash returned from Turkey a few weeks ago. Having lived through a 6.9 Earthquake myself, I can only say that it was horrifying… And no matter the infrastructure– even a city like Los Angeles looked and felt like a dead zone for weeks after.

    Again, our heartfelt condolences to all. Best to you and your families and friends.

    Loved the Walking Dead episode tonight. Some GREAT dialogue and interesting sides to characters– especially Shane. But after some scenes tonight, I feel their gonna have to upgrade “Walkers” to “JOGGERS”… Maybe even SPRINTERS…

      The reason that they are using that type of marketing is that (in statistical terms) men don’t buy diet soda because its seen as being sissy so they use this type of marketing to make it seem manly. You may think its sexist but its a reaction to mens rational and emotional prejudices.

        THANK YOU for this. I too, like one of those commentors, thought I misheard that commercial. But then realized, no, they really think that is a smart thing to say.

        I don’t drink soda anymore (not since after 2005 or 2006 or 07 when all american fast food and soda drinks turned to shit, and still are to this day) and this just makes me want to avoid it even more.

            Food just tasted better then. It felt like there was more effort in making it (even for fast food standards)

            Its so hard to eat that stuff now. Too many places cut corners and buy cheaper frozen ingredients with more transfat and the food just tastes bland…I think of the once glorious Pizza hut… oh how I miss the ol’ days of Pizza hut~

            And twitter was boring :P I’ll start up again later maybe hah…You been good Phil?

              l see. l guess my tastebuds r pretty much shot, then. :-) l recently had some “food” from the Hut, & thought it was delicious. My body must run on trans fat (which might exsplain the premature aches ‘n pains) Would’nt hurt me 2 buy an organic apple, every once in a while, ya know?
              Ah yes..the monotony of twitter. l hear u on its “bore”diciousness, but l guess if l’m in it 4 a penny, then l’m in it 4 a pound, as they use 2 say. As 4 my being good…well, all things being relative, l haven’t yet started 2 scrape paint chips off the wall, 2 get my “sweet” fix, not 2 mention, lead. Still hittin’ the pavement, looking 4 employment, & what not. l guess u could say; any day above ground, is a day that’s better than being below ground, so w/ that, all things considered, yeah, l’m good!
              How’s your music, coming?

      I can only speculate that maybe Wizard thought by having Superfly at the show they would get free publicity from the POP podcast and not have to do more work themselves? (themselves being Wizard)

    I probably sound like a broken record, but I actually can’t believe how much I still continue to like Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog. Every time I watch it I always find something new that I like about it. My newest admiration of Dr. Horrible is this song and while I liked all the songs, this one is growing on me and slowly becoming my favorite.
