The new IMJ logo on the vid,……nice!
    Gr8 premiere , guys! (0r is that, re-premiere?) :-)
As usual, nice intro, Jon. Never been a big fan of variants, myself. l’m in total agreemnt w/ u, Tom. lf
the 2nd pick is the better one, then why not just go w/ that one, overall? U’re also the reason l gave
Deathstroke a shot. lt wasn’t even on my radar, when the 52 talk was getting started, then l saw u
guys vid, a few months ago, & gave it a shot, & found surprisingly, that l enjoyed it! Un4tunately l dropped it w/ issue eight. l found that although it really didn’t get bad, it did become, one note. l was all 4 a bad guy, being, well…..a bad guy, but found that the writer wasn’t wasn’t peeling the onion. Higgins didn’t really delve in2 Slade’s motivations ‘n whatnot. And 4 me, if l’m gonna read a kill of the issue comic, l’d just as soon check the quarter bins 4 Punisher comics. Oh what could have been.

Being perhaps the sole guy in these parts not 2 be a J.H. fan, even though l still love Batwoman, l
found Amy’s take on BW, 2 be a breath of fresh air. That said; were it possible, l think the best of both worlds woud be 4 Amy 2 draw & 4 J.H. 2 write, do panel compositions & 2 color.

Looking 4ward 2 your mnext cotribution!

Kid Gladiator takes a trip into Kitty Prydes womb??? Did he at least buy her dinner first?

    • Jon (of aCBL) says:

Totally agreed. You’d think Shiar would have more formalities with such matters such as invading a womb to battle Brood (this storyline is strange lol).

  3. Thanks for watching guys I hope you like it.

I’m not sure who RYAN is though. ;)

  4. ajjackson100 says:

Great intro. loving the AKA segments, I look forward to seeing them all the time. This was a good start for you and IMJ. Keep the comics.

  5. Thanks man for checking us out over here!

  6. NicktheStick says:

Loved the new opening sequence! I hope that it is staying? Or something similar for future episodes.

As for variants, I have a few but don’t buy them often. I bought some of the Batman and Robin variants when during Morrison’s run because it was Frazer Irving covers and I actually didn’t see them until after I had purchased my original copies. I really wanted both covers of Batman 700 so I got the 1:25 variant. And again I really wanted the Invincible 75 variant so I spent the extra money on that one as well. The only other variant I have is a killer sketch cover by Tom Grummett ( http://twitpic.com/8k5pb4 ).

Finally the only book that I have more than one copy of is Ryan Ottley and Jason Howard’s Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark. I have a regular first print, and signed first print and a second print. But in this case I was more just supporting the Ryan Ottley as much as I could.

Great intro, guys! I see the appeal of variants from a collectors point of view, but kinda agree with Tom. It’s kinda a rip off when you see a comic that just came out a few months ago going for $30 cuz it’s a blank cover variant.

    • Jon (of aCBL) says:

Thanks Ed!! I agree with Tom too about variants, except if you are a big fan of a certain line or a certain artist. Then it can be justified. It really is on a case by case basis I guess isn’t it. Lol. Glad you like the intro!!

  8. hackslash2020 says:

I agree with Ed..Great intro.. I finally get to see some legs and feet(Liefeld pun ;-) )

I really dont get why people are buying variants. I understand why people are bidding on a 1 in 100 variant cover for JL 1 or Batman 1 because those books are hot…but are they still hot in 10 years? Yes, the books are scarce but are they in popular demand? Do they have play a significant role in comic book culture?

A Justice League Retailer Incentive cover sketch variant signed by Lee goes on auction for 600 to 1000 dollars…For that kind of money I could buy the original Justice League 1 from 1960..

Basically every comic book published in the last couple of years is scarce by default.
There are 2000 Amazing Spider-Man issues #1 that had the CGC-treatment.
Lets assume that only a percentage of all spidey nr 1′s have had the CGC-treatment.
The percentage is not that important as my point is that a lot of books/indy books, like Image titles such as Near Death dont sell more then 2000 copies a month and are therefore harder to come by then a Spider-man #1….But does it sell for more then cover price?…probably not…Therefore I think scarcity alone(ie. variant covers) is overrated these days

Great show, I’ll definitely check out the other episodes. I’m just getting back into them have a long break due to health issues so I’m a bit lost and have been wading back in with the New 52 books.

I was never one to get a variant that cost more than cover price unless I was absolutely stunned by the artwork, or it was the only copy I was able to come across that filled a spot in a series. I was, at one point, easy to get same day alternate covers, especially from Dynamite and Avatar. THose were mostly that I liked all the covers. But over time not all the covers were staying equal in quality and it became easier to get one cover an issue before I had to stop buying all together.

    • Thanks for watching man, and I read your post about Star Wars Comics, and Jon and I have wanted to do a show on Star Wars Comics for a while now so I’m glad you gave us a few pointers.

Also I hope your health issues are looking up.

      • Thanks man, they are at a plateau right now, which is still better than what it could be.

And if you want any more tips on Star Wars comics, let me know, I haven’t read all of them, but I have a hefty number of trades weighing down a shelf on a bookcase.

  10. Mathute says:

I remember the Gen 13 #1 release… It had like (you guessed it) 13 variant covers. I got none. Damn, I miss the 90s Wildstorm universe.

  11. ComicBookDude says:

The only variants I get are if I get them as prizes at conventions or if they are cheap at Half-Price Books. The variants I have are:

    - Dark Reign: The List- X-Men (got this as a prize)
    - X-Men Legacy#235 (got this as a prize)
    - The Ultimates 3#1 Black and White variant (You guys know I love Joe Mad’s art…)
    - Avengers/X-Sanction#1 variant (Got this for $3 and it was a cool Ed McGuinness cover, so why not?)

I’m sure I have a few more variants. Loved the frequent spoiler warnings! I would’ve bought Thief of Thieves, but sadly, seeing Nick Spencer’s name made me not really want to buy it. I really don’t want to be reminded that he once was an excellent comic book writer. :(

Great episode you guys! I can’t wait for the next installment of Comic Book Look (aka THE BEST COMIC BOOK REVIEW SHOW IN THE MIDWEST!)

(I realize you guys are more than a review show, but I couldn’t think of anything else to say…)

  12. Locusmortis says:

BTW Great show guys….even if Jon does have the worst taste in comics :P

I always liked finding ye’re videos in the open threads, its great to have ye in a permanent slot now!.

    • Jon (of aCBL) says:

And what, in your opinion, is a good comic? And what makes it a good comic to you? :o ).

I’ve said this before on the show and I’ll say it again. I read what I enjoy. I’m glad Tom and I don’t read all the same things, and in turn, I’m glad you read different things as well. Why? I can’t afford to buy every single comic, but I sure do enjoy hearing and learning about them. That’s why I like this show and I like the online community.

      Glad you like the show.

      Thanks,

      -Jon (of aCBL)

      • Locusmortis says:

I’m only kidding around with ya mate, at the end of the day a good comic is one that you enjoy and fuck anyone who says differently, I have no time for elitism.

        • Jon (of aCBL) says:

That’s what’s up. I agree 2 million percent with you. No hard feelings here – I seriously do like hearing what people like and don’t like because a lot of you are tons more knowledgeable than I am about the industry. I’m just getting my learning on :) .
Thank you again for the support on the show!!

  13. ajjackson100 says:

Suggestion for you, you said if we have ideas to tell you so here’s what I got a video on the top ten superheroes, top five anti-heroes, and Number one villain of all times are. You could post the question on IMJ or on your next video and the comments will be the way to vote. Then on the next video tally up the vote and give them your personal ranking form one to ten.

    • Jon (of aCBL) says:

      Done.

When Tom is back in town we’ll get to work on that and have an episode within the next three for sure. Thank you for the suggestion!!
