That Moonknight cover kindddda looks like an old Otomo cover
Some good covers this week, the mail Daredevil cover as usual is excellent, it shows a sense of design and construction that most modern marvel cover artists seem to lack. The other great marvel cover is the Jackson Pollock Thor one, any idea who did that?
The Ryan Sook Kirby Genesis cover is great, I really wish that Alex Ross would take an extended holiday and leave these covers to Sook rather than have them as bloody expensive variant covers. The King Conan cover is excellent and the Nazi Zombies cover is as badass as only a Nazi Zombie can be.
LM, from what I can tell Richard Isanove did the Thor #13 Avengers Art Appreciation variant. It was supposed to be some other artist but apparently it is Richard. I got this info from a site I’d never seen before… So it may be accurate. Hope so.
Remember the days when Alex Ross art was considered to be a treat and something truly special? This whole association with Dynamite has been a debacle as far as the specialness is concerned… And on certain covers, at least, his art seems to have really suffered because of it.
Thanks IM, If I was still buying Marvel comics I would buy that Thor book in a heartbeat, it would be even better if they had the guts to use pieces like that as the main cover rather than as a variant.
Alex Ross used to do iconic covers really well, the poses might have been a bit stiff but they were simple and powerful covers. The fact that Ross covers were not that common made them more special and desirable as well, now its like he has 4 or 5 covers a week and he’s really lost his mojo on most of them. He really needs to tone down his colour palette, he uses way too much gold, yellow and orange and and too much of it is luminous and neon. Also theres way too much going on in a lot of his covers and its hard to tell what the hell is going on in them.
