This is just my opinion, of course, but…
STEVEN MOFFAT! Call your attorneys NOW!

Also– is it my imagination or does Sherlock talk way too much in this?

i dont think it looks bad at all, its a cbs show so im not expecting much, ive seen all six of the bbc sherlock and besides the modern setting and the character i dont see much the same. miller’s sherlock doesnt seem nearly as haughty or arrogant as cumberbatch’s sherlock. miller seems more detached and aloof. and of course lucy lui as watson seems absoulutely nothing like freemans watson and im not just talking about her gender. she seems have different strengths and weakness.
like i said its cbs so im not expecting much but the 3 leads miller, lui, and quinn are capable of good work.

my niece left cbs so i dont get the preview dvd like i did last year ill have to wait and see.

I will have to respectfully disagree, Kuru.

I see a much too talkative Sherlock. A bland Lucy Liu. I am a big Aidan Quinn fan– though that won’t be enough to make me watch it.

All that said, the scene where Sherlock and Watson meet is very reminiscent of the BBC Sherlock. Quinn’s character seems derivative of the BBC Show’s police detective that follows Moffat’s Sherlock around as well.

The herky-jerky lettering used in the promo brings on a serious case of deja vu too.

The differences? Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock is, again, much too talky. Watson is a woman. Neither point is an improvement in my eyes. As Moffat said, he didn’t create Sherlock… But he did create the modern day Sherlock… And this show smells like a poorly made rip-off to me, at least IMO.

The only thing I’m expecting from this show? Not watching it. ;)

Lucy Liu has strengths? None from anything I’ve ever seen her in anyway.

        • kurumais says:

you didnt like her in kill bill? charlie angels? she was very funny on ally mcbeil

          • Insideman says:

I thought she was good in Kill Bill. Didn’t care for her in Charlie’s Angels. Never watched her in Ally. I read some good reviews for her work in Southland, though.

i need to watch more southland ive only seen a couple of episodes its very good its so good its no surprise its no longer on network tv she was good on the episodes i saw

I have to agree with you that Miller’s Sherlock is really talky and that I’m not expecting much when comparing it to Moffat’s Sherlock but I am fan Jonny Lee Miller and hopefully he does a little tweaking as the show progresses. Also (probably going to get in shit for saying this) since the cancellation of House, this is the only weekly dose of Sherlock I’m likely to get.

        • Insideman says:

You won’t catch shit from me, Dimaman15. ;)

IMJ is an Open Forum for all considered opinions… And I totally feel the loss of House. The caliber of acting/writing more than made up for any minor deficiencies. As depressing as that show could be at times, it’s amazing how depressed I am now that it’s over.

I am a Jonny Lee Miller fan too… And nobody more than Jose and I would rather these massive entertainment conglomerates stop foisting shit on us.

  2. It’s far too derivative of the BBC show. If CBS want to do their own version, credit should be given and licenses, where appropriate, should be paid. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have DEFINED the modern-day Sherlock, and this guy is way too close, just with a tweak to make him seem zany like Murdock from the A-Team. I’m not saying it can’t be a good show in its own right (for example, I quite like the US Being Human – but in that case, credit IS given), but if this show is a success, it’s CRIMINAL that the US public will associate modern-day Sherlock with this show, without knowing where the TRUE innovation came from.

    • Insideman says:

Totally agree, Craig. Love your thoughtful, smart posts.

Wish I had read that long Community one you wrote the other day!

    • Sunnie says:

I shuddered in horror, my brain bled, and I vomited in my mouth a little ! I tried to watch the first episode and it was so bad I had nearly seizure within the first few minutes! My sister actually made it halfway before she suffered similarly:(

Now I agree with you wholeheartedly. Some remakes defiantly hold there own and should be given credit where credit is due. I also like the remake of Being Human, Shameless isn’t too bad either, and Life on Mars was awesome up until its unfortunate cancellation and the to that crappy finale episode ruined it. As for Elementary, it’s blatantly obvious that CBS is trying to cash in on BBC’s success and failing at it miserably (and its barely even started!) In their attempt to differentiate their own show to save themselves from legalities, they’ve created a redheaded stepchild. CBS already screwed up with their remake of Eleventh Hour, and Elementary is going to be the same.

Soon, enough of those poor easily brainwashed drones will fall in love with Elementary and think its God’s gift to television. Soon, we will be caught in the midst of a lovers vs. haters battle that will fight to the death over which series is better and which which series came first, so it really won’t matter that Sherlock predates Elementary by two and half years.

I can foresee the bloodbath already

      *SIGH!*
