This was a pretty interesting interview from NPR with Larry Tye who wrote a book about the history of Superman. He tells a few interesting stories about the early days of Siegal and Shuster and the creation of the business of comic books. http://www.npr.org/2012/06/18/155278330/its-a-bird-its-a-plane-its-a-new-superman-bio

Just got a MacBook Pro for college!

Btw, I graduated high school a couple weeks ago. I’m off to Bethel University in MN!

Back to my new computer. It’s different… I’m used to Windows, so I’m biased as to which computer I like better. Contrary to what people say about PCs always getting viruses, the PC my family uses has only gotten a virus ONCE in the 5-6 years we have used it. I’m willing to give this Mac a shot. Just as long as I am able to make my LEGO comics and will be helping me out in college.

As far as comic books go… haven’t read many lately. Haven’t been in the mood to read comics, I guess. However I will admit to buying all of the Watchmen prequels that have come out so far. The art is fantastic. The story is… fine, I guess. Nothing super special. The art is the treat of the prequels so far. I bought Mind the Gap#1 on a whim and I like it. Hopefully it doesn’t take the Morning Glories “direction”. Nick Spencer needs to figure out what the hell to do and where to go with the story because after issue 13 it’s gone nowhere fast for me. I stopped after issue 14.

Nothing else comes to mind… oh, does anyone know what the extra material was for the 2nd print of Chew#27? I would appreciate someone telling me because if it is cool extra material I may get it.

Thor is now on Netflix streaming. I watched it this morning and I still love it. Just thought I’d let you guys know.

    • tomstewdevine says:

They have been coming out with a bunch of Marvel stuff lately, but I’ve been knocking Twin Peeks out on netflix lately. Great show.

      • ComicBookDude says:

I’ve been rocking out Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doctor Who.

I can’t always seem to read or watch things in order (especially if it’s a long run). I kinda think it’s fun to watch things out of order (not crazy out of order, but just like watching something from one season and going to the next season). Call me crazy, but I seem to like that. I also edit films out of sequence, which used to lead to bad results, but I’ve managed to learn how to prevent that from occurring this year in Film class. I got halfway through Season 3 and my brain decided to watch an episode from season 4 for the heck of it.

Willow and Spike are my absolute favorite characters. Buffy is cool and all, but I like characters who steal the show (in a good way). However, Season Two I watched entirely all the way through. Loved it. Season 3 I’m about half way through and love it just as much so far. Speaking of which… I think it’s time to watch some Buffy…

so my 360 red ringed and I realized there are a a lot of games I am missing for my PS3. I’ve narrowed down my choices to either the Ico/Shadow of the colossus HD collection or the Metal Gear Solid HD collection. Just curious as to what my fellow junkies would choose or if you have another suggestion. Thanks.

    • J. says:

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection all the way. You get 3 games instead of two. MGS2 has one of the best stories ever. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is one of the best video games ever created and looks awesome in HD. Peace Walker is really good as well and has a high replayability value.

      • dimaman15 says:

The thing is that i’ve played all the metal gear games when they came out on PS2 and regrettably I sold them. But I have that incredible yearning to play them again because they were as you said some of the best video games ever created. The only metal gear game I haven’t played is Peacewalker and I’ve heard that game is worth it by itself.

        • J. says:

Peace Walker was the only one I hadn’t played too and it is worth paying the $30 just for that game. The story is a sequel to Snake Eater. I would also say that MGS3 in HD is also worth the price by itself. It’s seriously one of the best collections I have ever bought. And the big plus is Trophies! You get trophies for doing the crazy shit you used to do just because. Do 100 pullups in MGS2? Trophy! Take a picture of the soldier in his boxers during the Tanker scenario? Trophy! Collect all the cardboard boxes? Throphy! Kill The End when you see him in the wheel chair in MGS3? Trophy!

  6. J. says:

What the dick, Dark Horse? You change the spine design on Gantz Vol 22 so it no longer matches the previous 21 volumes I have and now you change the spine design back to the original for Gantz Vol 23!? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkk…

    • ComicBookDude says:

I assume you have OCD about this sort of thing? I have a problem with owning TPBs and single issues of the same series. For some series though it’s necessary since the first issues are of the wall expensive, but still it bothers me… Y’know it just occurred to me that I only have this problem with creator-owned series (i.e. Fables and Invincible). But for stuff like ASM or Batman it doesn’t bother me. Probably because old issues of ASM and Batman are IMPOSSIBLE to find cheap.

I actually like reading older comics in trade format. I don’t have to worry about ruining the condition of the comic at all. I’ve learned to love Marvel Essentials (black and white pages be damned) in the past year. They’re fun and meant to be read and abused. One of these days I need to get a reprint of sorts for Uncanny X-Men#101 because since I bought a copy of it for $8 in good condition I have yet to take it out of it’s mylar bag. It’s a shame because I really want to read that comic.

I apologize. My response totally flew off the rails of what you are talking about, but I can definitely see why you are frustrated. What if they go back to the vol. 22 spine design for volume 24? I suspect rage will emerge :)

    • Insideman says:

That drives me batshit crazy too.

Marvel’s Logo on HC and TPB spine’s were all white background with red lettering… Now they all red background with white lettering.

I can understand changing the spine for NEW PRINTINGS of a long established series but to do that in the middle of a first run just sucks.

Nothing compares however to pulling the Avenging Spider-man out of a box SHRINK-WRAPPED… Then have the Batwoman Hydrology HC follow right after with none of the 1 cent (or less) protection on it.

As you can tell, this still pisses me off.

    • NicktheStick says:

Robert Kirkman said that even though he doesn’t really like the invincible slip cover on the hardcover collections he will not changed how they are produced because he is just as picky as us when it comes to such things. I can’t say I have had a problem with comics but in buying DVD/blu-ray seasons of shows I always get burnt with them changing the packaging a few years later. Bah!

    • I hate when they do that. The GRRM books have changed designs for the last two books, pisses me off greatly

Turns out the Extended Cut is going to be released on Tuesday next week Jose. This is a make or break point for me Bioware. Good luck.

  9. ed2962 says:

Jose! I’m not sure if you’d be interested in this but I thought I’d throw it out there to you and anyone else who happens to be in the area… The film Beyond The Black Rainbow is having a 11pm showings 6/22 and 6/23 at the Logan Theater in Chicago. I’d consider going if it was being shown during the day, but as it is, I’ll probably end up renting it.

  11. kurumais says:

shippers goin’ to ship i found these 2 posts on Fyeah captain america tumblr they made me chuckle

There are some Steve/Tony shippers who use panels and quotes from Civil War as “evidence” for their ship. This is the absolute wrong thing to do. The Civil War was not a “lover’s spat.” It was a brutal fight between two opposing sides who were willing to die and kill for their cause. Two men nearly beating each other to death is no where near romantic. And just because Tony said “it wasn’t worth it” doesn’t make it all alright. Tony was about to let Steve spend the rest of his life in jail for treason. In what universe is that romantic at all?
This is in no way an attack on shippers. If you have a desire to ship two characters together, that is your prerogative and by all means, go ahead. But please stop taking panels out of context, especially Civil War panels, to reinforce your ship.

Hey, fuck you buddy. You’re obviously too stupid and to much of a fanboy to see how much Tony and Steve actually love eachother. It’s called implied love and subtext. Writers put it there for a reason. TONY AND STEVE ARE CANON, YOU ASSHOLE.

    Oh my stars and garters.
I usually delete messages like this, but this one is literally too good not to share. There is so much that is wrong with this message, I’m not sure if you’re being serious or you’re trolling me. Either way, thanks for the laugh, anon.

    • Locusmortis says:

Thats just funny as hell, “Tony and Steve are canon you asshole”. You have to wonder at the latent insanity of shippers that will believe something no matter what evidence is against them, kind of like 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

    • ed2962 says:

I get it when people write slash fiction as a wouldn’t-it-be-cool if thing. What I don’t understand is when folks insist that these made up relationships are actually in the comics when they obviously aren’t. For example the Tim Drake/Superboy thing. I’m just, uh…what?

    • PhilBetaGAMMA says:

Marvel certainly is flirting w/ the “point of no return” isms w/ this mediocrity. The only thing that is more disappointing than what AvX has become (not that it was any gr8 shakes 2 begin with) r the number of ppl (some of whom l gr8ly respect) who r championing the virtue, and validity of AvX/PhoenixFive.

Even w/ DC’s missteps, they do at least seem 2 be trying. At 1st when a few years ago, l proclaimed DC’s my number one,(though now, l’m leaning a li’l more 2 the indies) l thought Marvel would be getting their “legs” under ‘em, and get their 2nd wind. l can see now that that’s a pipe dream “which wouldn’t be so bad, if l smoked” :-)

  13. J. says:

“Crazy chicks”, you say? Unfortunately for me, I do kinda dig ‘em.

  14. kurumais says:

would you watch this movie? its called tub About a guy who can’t commit to his girlfriend… Who then jerks off in the shower. And accidentally impregnates his tub.

    • J. says:

I would watch the hell out of a movie like that…And I just found it. I think I’m going to need to get a few beers before I start it though.

  15. kurumais says:

people really hate cyclops these days. i havent read the xmen in a loooooong time but when i did he was my favorite. i cant understand why ppl hate him so much now. especially fan girls. they seem to post the most anti scott stuff. and the villainous emma frost seems to be well liked, and too good for scott. i thought x fans bought into the whole the xmen and mutants are poor victims i would think scott standing up for them would be a move they liked. maybe it interferes with the whole sense of victimhood and outsiderness? i dont know is he such a jerk?

    • ed2962 says:

I think it’s because of the way the writers have been handling Scott’s personality over the last several years. He’s gone from being the introverted yet well meaning leader to an arrogant prick who says “Do as I say cuz only I can save the mutants.” It’s played as if he’s got a great burden on his shoulders, but it’s comes off ( to me) as if he’s a massive jerk. He’s got a secret black ops teams and a public strike force team whose message is basically “don’t mess with us”. It’s hard to play the persecution card when you’re in people’s face showing how tuff you are. I know it’s editorial thinking they’re giving fans what they want, but I think it (along with the too many spin-offs) does undercut the premise of the title.

  16. kurumais says:

summer is here and there is no #$%^ing doctor who to watch. what is on your summer viewing schedule ?

    • J. says:

Not a whole lot. The only new shows I am watching now are Dallas, Continuum and Hit & Miss. Two of series will be ending soon too.

    • Insideman says:

Dallas is a must see. I’m using the time to catch up on some movies I missed in the last six months.

It’s amazing. With my work– I am really far ahead and far behind at the same time.

I just watched Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows and I HIGHLY recommend it. Loads better than the first. Noomi Rapace is great (in a limited role). I had read the script, knew what was going to happen and still had a great time.

By the way, there’s a scene on the train– after Robert Downey Jr had been wearing lipstick… I dare you to watch the scenes where the lipstick lingers and decide for yourself if Warner’s just found Heath Ledger’s replacement as the Joker.

      • kurumais says:

dallas? really? a prime time soap? im very surprised. what do you 2 like about it?

        thanks

        • Insideman says:

I can you tell you what I liked about it.

Both Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing) and Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) are playing their iconic characters to the hilt– as if they have been living on South Fork Ranch all the while we’ve been gone. It’s quite obvious they don’t need the money in their real lives and that they are only there to bring as much “authenticity” as they can to the often crazy, outlandish premise that is the show.

Personally, I am in the camp that any TV or Movie is fair game to like– as long as the idea is attacked from the standpoint of making the best series or film they can. Dallas has obviously been re-developed by someone with a very caring eye… Right down to an almost exact recreation of the opening credits– just with updated pictures.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Hagman’s outrageous eyebrows. You be surprised how many people wonder why he would allow himself to be filmed looking like that… When it is obvious to me he is doing it so he can look as much like SATAN (if Satan were an 82 year old man) as he can.

It’s crazy camp and nostalgia re-done right… And I love it.

          • Locusmortis says:

I’d bet that Larry isn’t downing 2 bottles a champagne during the filming of the show this time around! :D

  17. Blanchard says:

I just finished reading Batwoman Vol. 1. God I wish more comics from the new 52 was like that.

How does the rest of the series fare after J.H. Williams takes a break from art duties?

    • J. says:

As much as it pains me to say it, the Amy Reeder issues were not nearly as good. Probably why she is no longer on the book. The good news is that her replacement, Trevor McCarthy, is pretty damn good. I’ve enjoyed the last two issues he drew and feel like the book is back on track. But Williams is coming back in another issue or two so it’ll all be fine.

As far on the New 52 goes, I am down to 4 books. Batwoman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Demon Knights. I am still really enjoying all of those.

      • Locusmortis says:

Snap, I’m getting those 4 books as well, along with Animal Man and Action Comics which is less DC books than I was getting before the reboot.

Why I’m getting Action though I don’t know, I guess I’m hoping it will get good at some point.

      • tomstewdevine says:

I Still have Batman, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman, Justice League Dark, and with the “second wave” I have Earth 2, Dail H, and the Shade. JLD is my Zatanna book, and Dial H is so wacky that I will continue to pick it up, but those are the weaker ones I buy.

a question for green lantern fans
it looks like there is a ruckus brewing between the GLC and the alpha lanterns but didn’t they already do a alpha lanterns vs corp story line not that long ago?
    thanks

  20. kurumais says:

i was just pleasantly surprised just now. i got around to reading nightwing issue 10 and actually enjoyed it. i would say this is the first issue of the current series i liked besides a couple of nitpicks.
one thing though i have given the RED in nightwing’s costume a chance and i just dont like it. i dont actually hate it but it looks out of place and wrong for both dick grayson and the costume.
ive tried to let it grow on me but after 10 months i know its just not going to.

also kev walker draws a really nice man thing

  21. J. says:

And now Battle Royale is on Netflix instant. Think I’ll be watching that again tonight. It will be the fist time in a while.

  23. kurumais says:

my outsiders idea for the new 52
cassandra cain, stephanie brown and wendy kuttler invesigating cults like kobra and the church of blood recruiting on college campuses in bludhaven and gotham. maybe misfit as well

    • ed2962 says:

I had to look up Wendy Kuttler and then I was like… from Wendy and Marvin!Yes! Since it’s the New 52 he can come back too. I’d thrown in Bette Kane as well. It might seem a little calculated cuz it’s sort of “the ex-Batgirl club”, but if done right I think it could be fun.

      • kurumais says:

i was thinking betta kane too i liked her since the beast boy mini years ago and how nightwing kept telling herto hang up the tights but she wouldnt . but i was thinking the batwoman book might have sole rights to her.

The games “flOw,” “Flower,” and “Journey” are set to release on one Blu-ray disc as a Collection for the PS3. As someone who has not had the pleasure of playing any of the three I am extremely for this this because I have heard nothing but good things about said games

    • J. says:

I played the demo for fl0w but never bought it. I do however own Journey and Flower. 2 of the best video games I have ever played. You should definitely pick up the collection when it comes out.

  25. ed2962 says:

Chris Claremont, Ann Nocenti, and Lousie Simonson brief talk about trying to reach a broader comic book audience.

    • Locusmortis says:

Can’t really argue with any of that. Claremont is right in that there needs to be more fun comics, like Atomic Robo and a lot of the stuff Dark horse and Image is putting out.

    • kurumais says:

i used to think companies had to get kids into comics but what they have to do is convince the parents to buy comics for kids. i see parents buying yugi and pokemon packs all the time. they are buying bone and amulet for the kids. the guy in the middle loves to hear himself talk.

so is abraham lincoln vampire hunter officially a bomb now? was it the title or the actual premise keeping movie goers away?

  29. dimaman15 says:

just wondering what everyone thought of the extended ME3 endings.

    • J. says:

On my initial playthrough I got the Destroy ending which I really liked and didn’t have a problem with. The extended version is a bit better and does explain the aftermath in a way that only adds to the ending without ruining it. I am still interested in the very last scene where it shows Shepard taking a breath. I hope they go into that some more somewhere down the road.

That being said, people are now bitching about the new endings and those people just really need to shut the fuck up now. Because of a group of whiners the rest of us have to wait for actual story DLC. The whole thing is BS. Sorry, but BioWare owe these bitchy fans nothing and never should have caved into the pressure. This is nothing but a bad thing for the gaming industry. Gamers are entitled to nothing but now they will feel that they are. It really is “bad parenting”.

      • Locusmortis says:

No way man, fuck that shit, I want what I want when I want it and I want it now godammit. Even worse than Mass Effect is that prick George RR Martin, he wouldn’t rewrite A Song of Ice and Fire how I wanted it either, now I hate that cunt!

        • J. says:

I know, right? I want him to put robots in A Song of Ice and Fire, not fucking dragons. He better change that shit in the next book or I’m just going to complain some more about how much it sucks and about how my opinion is the only one that matters because my parents raised my to be a whiny shit.

          • There is plenty of fucking in the books, how about just some plain ol’ robots?

But while we are on the subject of sex. I am pissed that he still hasn’t but in that Daenerys has sex with her dragons and spawns a Dragonborn army to control.

  30. J. says:

Now this is how the entire gaming industry should deal with “entitled gamers”. Awesome.
