2012 Harvey Award Nominations

It’s that time of year again

It increasingly seems that the Harvey Awards, like most awards, are fast becoming famous for who’s not on the nominations list as they are for who is included. Like many, I am left scratching my head at some of these nominations.

Daredevil or Animal Man as Best NEW Series?

I’m not saying these comics doesn’t deserve awards but changing creative teams and slapping a shiny new #1 symbol on a book does not a “new” series make. (At least Animal Man hadn’t existed as a regular monthly for years and was part of a line-wide revamp.) Maybe it’s just me, but putting Daredevil or Animal Man in a category that should include the overlooked The Strange Talent of Luther Strode seems… Off.

  1. J. says:

I saw this list late last night and I think overall it’s pretty shit. It’s nice to see Angel and Faith nominated for Best New Series but there is no individual nomination for Christos Gage or Rebekah Isaacs? And why are Rachel Rising and Daredevil nominated for Best New Series AND Best Continuing Series? Surely it should either be one or the other. I’m not saying Rachel Rising doesn’t deserve to be there, it does, but it is odd. Also, it is strange that one of the very, very, very few manga that D & Q publish finds itself on the list instead of 20th Century Boys.

-Insert rant about a conspiracy here-

  2. Matthew Guy says:

I agree Daredevil as much as I love it, It needs to be one or the other categories & not both. Let other books have a chance so they get their moment in the sun that is deserved. I hope Katie Cook gets the award for best online comics. It is the best online out there in my opinion that comes out weekly every Friday. Does the Eisners & the Harveys need new blood in terms of nominees? Yes indeed. Short of having a camera of the voters actually reading ALL the nominees you will have the usual BS voting. The results of the winners are a certain lock akin to politics with CA going for the Democrats in each election unless you are Ronald Reagan & TX going for the GOP in each election unless you are LBJ.

angel and faith for best new series hands down
