I’m not really jiving with the way it looks. All gray and dark. Are they really trying to add the whole “gritty and realistic” feel to Superman? This is just my opinion but I think when watching Superman you should feel wonderment, awe and hope, not sadness and gloom.

I see what you’re saying, but I think with the voice overs (there are two, a Jor-El one and Pa Kent one) the message is hopeful.

I am kind of getting a LOTR vibe with the music and voice over. I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing. I think that it kind of brings that “dark” and “gritty” feel that people apparently are looking for, but also has that sense of the fantastical and possibility of a man that is there to do great things if he chooses. Maybe I am just really hopeful that this isn’t going to be a really dark and gritty Superman, but one that is set in reality to be the one to give people that feeling of wonderment, awe and hope.

Like I said, I don’t know if I’m just that hopeful and trusting in the people involved in the film, or just reading into things that are not really there. Either way that is how I am seeing it and just hope that I am correct.

  2. DC has being reguritating “Gritty and Dark” in relation to Superman for a while now. I mean, why hire Zach Snyder if you want anything different?

I think there isn’t enough here to make an educated opinion of it. I think the first part seemed gritty, but that also seemed to be part of his trek to the Arctic where, hopefully, the Fortress of Solitude will be created. And The farther north you get, it really isn’t sunshine and rainbow. The second part seemed to have a more nostalgic, family video feel. So, with the idea that it will be aged it isn’t going to be gleaming. I think the bit at the end will be close to what the film will feel like, not gritty, but aiming for realism.

At least, that’s what I hope.

I’m really pulling for this film to succeed where Superman Returns stumbled. Superman is a great character and I think he can still resonate with a modern audience.

Saw Dark Knight Rises yesterday morning first thing I said to my fiancee after this trailer was “Piece o’ Shit”

I say that after watching lots of movie trailers, Bello. :)

What I had no idea about: Clark Kent was/is an Alaskan Crab Fisherman?

I’m going to have to watch The Deadliest Catch more closely from now on.

All fun aside, I hope it does well too.

I was just telling J the other night that I really liked Watchmen. I also think it was an impossible movie to make– it was always going to be savaged by somebody. (I wouldn’t have advocated putting in the Watchmen Space Squid either. I never really got that in the comic to begin with.)

What I really want? Snyder to make another Zombie movie. I don’t care, I thought his Dawn of the Dead “remake” rocked. God, that seems like a lifetime ago.
