The reason Alfred is not in the movie creative wise is because the cliche rules of the 3rd movie of a trilogy are to kill off anywhere from nearly to all of the main cast, and stroywise he would have been killed if he had a thicker plotline especially becuase of what happens to Gotham coming under occupation.

  2. Great show guys. I have to agree with all the points you all made about TDKR. I will say that I wasn’t as surprised at the Alfred part for two reasons: 1.) Even in the last two movies, there was a hesitancy on Alfred’s part of Bruce being Batman (example: the morning after Bruce first goes out as Batman and Alfreds talks about the the bruises all over him. It turns around in a remark about how to hide them, but if you pay attention to Caine’s performance, you see the start of his concern). 2.) This was something I was talking about with my dad afterwards and that was the sense of time the trilogy has. Comics are timeless. Their is no defined time frame or progression in the story. Because of that characters become deeper characters to the audience, but the archetype they are meant to be in the comic always stays the same unless stupid comic events make them change. Because the movies have a defined time span, you have to allow the fact that characters are going to go through more changes and be different depending on the way they handled backstory events.

Sidenote: John, I hope Boba Fett is dead #4 did something amazing, ’cause I tried 1 and 2 and they were unreadable for me, lol. Can you go into a little more depth of what you liked about it?

    • -Jon (of aCBL) says:

      Hey there Mr. Prescott,

LOL Boba Fett is dead #4 wouldn’t be earth shattering by any means. The series as a whole was simply fun for me. I am constantly hungering for new Star Wars material because I used to read all the books, watch the movies a million times, and yes rock the action figures nonstop. Things I liked about the series: Boba Fett. The emergence of yet again, his clever survival tactics by using a decoy to make others think he’s dead. But what I more-so liked about the series was meeting the female bounty hunter and her daughter (turns out was also Fett’s daughter, haha). This allowed the reader to see a more family man side of Boba Fett. Beneath their storehouse were multiple suits of Mandalorian armor which was neat to see as well.

What I didn’t like is exactly what you said – it was a slow beginning, I can totally give you that because I wasn’t sure about it either at first.

      • Did you ever read they Bounty Hunter War Trilogy? While not the best written books, I thought it was another great Story that dove into the character of Boba Fett.

Surprised they brought in Fett’s daughter. I’ve only read one book that had her in it, and that took place 40 years after A New Hope and I got the impression she was quite a bit younger, but maybe I miss read that.

Have you checked out Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison, yet?

        • -Jon (of aCBL) says:

Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison has been really fun so far as well. I’m picking up all the Star Wars titles that are currently coming out and it actually is Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison’s fault :) . I read the first issue of that and decided to check out these other series and I enjoy them all. You know what’s funny I have read the Bounty Hunter War Trilogy however it has been years. I’ll have to check to see if I still have those. But yes, big big big Boba Fett fan :) .

I loved this movie. And i’m not ashamed to say I liked it better then the Avengers. I honestly got tear strickin when Alfred goes to bruces grave. My ONE!!!! nit-pick about the movie is how many times the mentioned the god damn auto-pilot. If you mention it like ten times over the course of the movie then it means its pretty damn important. lucias fox is probably ready to off his self because bat died because him. Other than that the fight was epic hard hitting action. When bruce is trying to get out of the prison and climbing that wall and you hear the soundtrack in the back round you totally get pumped up. You feel like your there climbing with him. I saw it in Imax, I think that also gave the movie a better feel to it. Overall this movie is a 6-pack of Beers and will be known as this generations Epic trilogy rather then Star wars, Harry Potter, and of course the never ending headache Twilight.

I have yet to see the movie so I will have to hold off on this episode till I actually do…Which will probably be sometime after it comes out on blu ray. I’ve only seen one film in a theater this year and you know what? I don’t really miss going. I also don’t miss the dumb fucks who talk while I’m watching a film.

It’s surprising how content I am waiting and then watching movies at home in HD. I may never go to another theater again. At least not for the foreseeable future.

    • Morlock50 says:

I’ve heard so many people say the same thing to me. I think the movie industry is in deep shit between high ticket prices, rude audiences, and all the other nonsense. I’m sure everybody has some great horror stories about going to see a film and having it ruined by the audience talking or acting stupid.

    • comicbookdude89 says:

You should go to Minnesota. I’ve never had problems with people talking throughout the entire movie or even most of the movie. Also, if you want to beat the crazy ticket price, go in the afternoon. It’s so much cheaper (at least in MN).

    • I don’t go to many movies these days either. I think in the last year the only movie I can say I was glad I saw in the theaters was Tron: Legacy. But few movies have that quality that makes it necessary to watch it on the big screen rather than on a TV or computer monitor. Even TDKR. I loved the movie, but if I couldn’t have gotten to it in the theaters, I don’t think I would have missed anything.

And the ticket prices here in NJ are outrageous.

Jon, you MUST read Knightfall if you haven’t already. It’s pretty much got every Batman villain in it (the ones that were introduced before the mid-90s). It’s a great comic and, yes, does have Poison Ivy in it. :) Plus you get to know Bane as a character really well.

I disagree about Chicago being the perfect Gotham City. One of my favorite things about the Tim Burton Batman movies was how Gotham looked. It looked creepy and eerie. To me Gotham doesn’t look like your average big city. That’s just me, though.

Really good point about Alfred. I really wanted to give him a hug while I was watching the film. Poor guy :( I liked the Robin bit in the film. I thought that was a very nice nod to the character. What gave me chills was just staring into Bane’s eyes. It was terrifying. I also liked how they concealed most of Bane’s face. It really caused me, and hopefully the other members of the audience, to focus on his menacing stare and his body language. I liked his coat too. I heard that the coat took 2 years to design. Yikes.

While not as menacing as Heath Ledger’s Joker, I thought Tom Hardy did a superb job as Bane and really had a presence in most scenes he was in. He would sometimes get lost in the shuffle if there were several other main characters on scene, but still great in most scenes.

I said the EXACT same thing about Scarecrow appearing in all 3 movies. I even said ‘comic booky’. :) I also never understood why people were nervous about Anne Hathaway portraying Catwoman. I just remembered that Christopher Nolan was directing the film and felt confident that she would do a good job and she did an excellent job. People need to have more faith in Nolan, like I do :)

I also saw DKR at a midnight showing. I had bacon-popcorn. It was delish. Then I fell asleep as soon as the sun was rising (it really was a long movie). I woke up at noon and two hours later went to LegoLand with my friend (who also saw the movie with me and had to go to work at 8:30 AM) and I bought a $150 LEGO set and we built it together as a last hurrah before college starts. It took us 4 hours to build. It was awesome and well worth what I paid for. Then the next day I went to the ER. I was really dehydrated. I’m doing great now though (honestly I’m feeling better than I have in a while). Those were an epic 48 hours!

Keep it comics guys! Fun episode and I look with great anticipation for the next one!

    P.S.- Batman isn’t dead. Just sayin’ :)

    • skyler says:

Tim Burton’s Gotham was a very cool set, so dark and gritty. Few scenes were shot in direct sun if any. But I felt this gave the city little hope. I feel that Nolan did a great job of mixing in open daylight scenes that make the city feel real and American and recoverable. with the dark and ominous underground. Nextfilm Nolan directs and Burton does sets.

:) NICE! I will have to check out this Knightfall. That’s a party I wanna be invited to for sure. Thanks Aaron!

  6. Sergeant says:

Great show. Good breakdown segments. I liked the bat but hated his vehicles. The bat wing could be taken out by tossing a rope or net into the blades. And his bike that rotates over the machine guns just ticked me off. With all of Bruce’s money he should have a voice modulator. CBL thanks for doing a show about what you are passionate about.
Hope to see a show about how to start a comic collection and best comic you ever got.

    • skyler says:

      Thank you!

That bat bike has been denying physics and logic for too long! Why don’t the guns clink against the road? How are no scratches present? The sound tx guy blew it here. Visual fx too, why not pack in more sparks?

    Very cool show, guys!
