Back in early April I wrote a post centering on the awesome initial trailer for the new Tokyo Jungle video game. Back then, there was no word when– or even if– players in the States would ever get a chance to take control of Earth’s most deadly predator– the Pomeranian… Or control a herd of Baby Chicks as they attempt to survive being hunted by their arch-nemesis the Velociraptor… Or, most importantly, watch Pandas hump.
For those of you who are looking to play a video game that doesn’t reek of the same old stale shit, I have some good news and even better news. The good news? On September 25th, Tokyo Jungle will be released in North America on PSN for the Playstation 3. The better news? It will only cost $15 USD.
I am aware I fly my Sony Fanboy Flag a lot, but this type of thing is a huge reason why I unashamedly do. If the independently developed, exclusively downloadable games on PSN are an indication, Sony is very aware many gamers are looking for something outside of the mainstream AAA title releases… And the company is going out of their way to give these gamers a choice. Games like Flower, Journey, Papo y Yo, Dyad and Tokyo Jungle are always a welcome jolt to refresh the standard gaming experience.
Keep in mind, Sony did not have to localize and release Tokyo Jungle outside of Japan… As it will most likely never be anything more than a niche title here. I am very thankful they did though, and will buy it to support Sony as they continue to take chances by releasing these diverse types of video games.
