If you need another reason to avoid “Marvel Now” like the plague, just take a look at this:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/2012/10/10/superior-spider-man-comic-book-series/1624319/

    • J. says:

      Reading that made me sick.

      • Tiger Topher says:

You don’t see the appeal in having a Spider-Man who’s dark, edgy and has retractable claws? It’s not like Marvel has any other characters like that. Sounds like you’re just a hater.

        • J. says:

Well, true, I am a hater but this is still a laughable idea. I guess when you have people writing and editing a character they obliviously don’t respect, this is what you get.

The whole thing is just ridiculous. They are saying that this may not be Peter but don’t we already have a grim and gritty Spidey who is not Pete called The Scarlet Spider? I’m really surprised they didn’t get McFarlane to come back and draw this thing or at least do covers.

I didn’t think things could get any worse with Spidey but I guess I should never bet against Slott and Wacker making it so.

Didn’t they already do the whole Spidey with claws thing anyway? It was pretty terrible.

          • Tiger Topher says:

Yes, Spider-Man 2099 had claws that came out of his fingers and toes. Maybe they’re replacing Peter Parker with Miguel O’Hara.

    • Insideman says:

This is all so horrifying. Just my opinions, of course.

Slott’s statement, “I’ve always been the omniscient hand that’s been protecting Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and not letting anything too bad happen to him…” was ludicrous.

Goddamn, imagine what things would have been like if Slotty wasn’t around Marvel to “protect” poor Spidey. I wonder if he knows when his comic clock runs out in a few years (every comic writer’s does), he’ll be yesterday’s newz… Replaced by some new twenty-something Architect.

I also wonder if he’ll be able to find work writing Ingredient Lists for Campbell Soup cans?

      • Locusmortis says:

Its the usual schtick marvel have been doing since about 2004

“Whether or not Marvel fans storm the company’s New York City offices with pitchforks and web shooters once Superior Spider-Man comes out — after recently turning in the plot for the second issue, Slott predicts they’re going “to be crumpling it in their hands while they’re reading it” — the folks inside the building are all for Spidey’s new direction.”

Instead of just doing everything possible to tell good stories they come up with stories specifically to piss off fans and get people talking, then send out Steve Wacker to spam message boards and further piss off the core fans of the book. That policy has sure been working well for them since OMD hasn’t it

    • The Amazing Mike says:

I have the sudden urge to vomit.

    • Dan Slott will go down in history as having one of the longest and most pointless runs on Spider-Man. I don’t care how much of a fan he “claims” to be of the character. Nothing he’s written has any resonance. I truly am thankful that I have the entire Roger Stern and Tom Defalco runs. This current shit is…shit. Excuse my language but…good lord Marvel.

MINI RANT – Every book they have now is meaningless. They keep telling the same stories with the same characters. The Avengers now have mutants and the X-Men now have Avengers and the New Avengers feature old Avengers who were X-Men and…ugh. I miss the days when you had the cosmic world, the mutants, the Avengers, and the street characters all in their own corners of the Marvel univese. -END RANT- I also miss the days when Spider-Man was a great comic.

I don’t know about you, my fellow Junkie-heads, but my Peter Parker will always be the kind, young man that shared his greatest secret with a dying boy in “The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man.” That, to me, is the hero that I truly miss. Him and Captain Marvel. Hell, I miss Ms. Marvel too.

I’m gonna go locate Jim Shooter and tell him to come back.

    • Tiger Topher says:

Retailers are already complaining about how they’re going to lose sales due to this Superior Spider-Man bullshit. I even saw one retailer post that by the time that Superior Spider-Man #2 comes out, he expects to be selling 30% fewer Spidey books than he is now. Of course, with reader attrition being the norm, this retailer is likely to see an even greater drop in sales as the weeks and months go on.

    • IronMuskrat says:

What a load of horseshit coming from Marvel. Here, let me try to create a Cliffnotes version of what was said in that article…

You brought this on yourself Spider-Man fans, despite all of our attempts to make Peter Parker into a cool, edgy character in recent years, you have resisted us. Apparently, you prefer Spider-Man the way he has been written for so many years, a superhero with a strong set of moral beliefs about the responsible and proper use of his powers to do good and help those in need. Also Peter is a nice guy who fights crime and still finds time his girlfriend and aunt, who he still lives with! Seriously, who would read a comic about a guy like that? That shit is boring!

So faced with the decision of writing Peter Parker the way the fans seem to like him or getting rid of him.. well, we are getting rid of Peter Parker. But don’t worry Peter Parker fans, once you’ve seen this new, darker, edger Spider-Man murder his first hobo, you’ll forget Peter Parker ever had anything to do with old Spidy, I guarantee it!

      And scene!

    • That costume screams Teenage Mutant Ninja Spider to me. Anyone else?

  2. Guess what’s coming to Xbox and PS arcades this november:

    Woot!

    • J. says:

I used to play this game a lot at the house one of my exes back in high school. Coincidentally, I now hate this fucking game because of that. Exes have ruined a lot of good shit that I use to like.

      • Exes ruin a lot of things, I’ve lucked out that it has only be mediocre to bad music for me so far. But I’ll make sure to play double the amount of TJ&E to make up for you, Jose.

    • dimaman15 says:

      …what did I just read?

p.s. Thank you for using a pic from Homeland, the show is amazing. The ending for last sundays episode was intense.

      • J. says:

It really is awesome. It is the show I currently look forward to watching the most every week. There have only been two episodes so far and both of them have been very intense. The preview for next week looks like the show is not letting up either.

        • Insideman says:

Since we started promoting Homeland in the “TV We Like” section two weeks before the First Season Premiere, we must have known how good this show was a long time ago.

So glad it won so many awards and the rest of Hollywood found the guts and will to respect a show that has been great from Ep #1.

To be fair, we also promoted 2 Broke Girls too– but I swear the script was better than the final product.

    • IronMuskrat says:

Dammit Frank Miller, I didn’t give you all that money back in the 80′s buying your comics so you could harrass hard working Filipinos with your crazy girlfriend!

    • ed2962 says:

Trying to live a polyamorous lifestyle eventually backfired on Alan Moore and now it’s backfiring on Frank. (heh, heh)

  3. IronMuskrat says:

I read this the first time and thought.. Ha! Karma bites Stan Lee in the ass.
I read it the second time and thought… Did Stan Lee just pull a Bernie Madoff?
I read it a third time and thought.. Is Stan Lee even involed with any of this?

Maybe someone can explain it to me… :)

  4. As just a just a brief preview of my review of Uncanny Avengers this Sunday in the Capsule Reviews, this is the conversation I had with my dad after he read it:

    Dad: “What?”
    Me: “Didn’t like it?”
    Dad: “It’s…”
    Me: “There’s a reason I haven’t picked up a Marvel comic in a while.”
Dad: “I suggest you never do again.”

More with my conversation with dad Sunday.

    • IronMuskrat says:

Why do I get the feeling you waited until just after I clicked on the ‘Proceed to Checkout’ button at Comixology before you posted this. :)

      • Because use horror writers aren’t really evil, but to balance out what we write with our teddy bear existences, the universe creates these kinds of coincidences to make use look like jack asses.

    • Blanchard says:

This conversation would make a great podcast.

      • If I didn’t think my dad’s security clearance could cause problems, I would’ve recorded it and posted it. But he can’t have any kind of identifiable information on the internet.

  5. IronMuskrat says:

So after spending a few days messing around on comixology looking at free stuff I decided to take the plunge and actually spend some money this week.

    Soooo, I picked up…

Cerebus Vol.2 #1 High Society- Cerebus has always been one of thsoe book I wanted to check out but never got around too. This one was free, so I have no excuse now not to read it.

Point of Impact #1- Looks like a pretty good murder/mystery.

Holloween Eve- Because it will be Holloween soon.

Uncanny Avengers #1- It’s been a good, long while since I read either an X-Men or Avenger book. Now I get to read both in the same comic, this is going to be awesome! ;)

    • Insideman says:

I hope you enjoy some of that, IM. ;)

      • IronMuskrat says:

So I just read Uncanny Avengers #1(three times), not because it was good, but I found myself really trying to figure out why? Why is this book even needed? I have a whole list of problems with the book itself, but my overall thought after reading the comic was how pointless the whole thing was.

I could go on, but I don’t want to ruin things for anyone who hasn’t read it yet.

        • Wait for this Sunday’s Capsule Reviews, I think that will be the Uncanny Avenger Rant Thread.

But I will say, quiet a few comics this week had me doing the same thing. This is one of the times that I would consider leaving comics again, which would make this the shortest stint I’ve done of comics. But I keep hoping for something to change my mind.

  6. dimaman15 says:

Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy teaming up for new Vertigo miniseries. WOW… looking forward to reading it.

    • M. Fewko says:

      Yeah, me too. I love Sean’s art dearly. I’ll still never process how so many great series can happen outside the hero world, and yet those are really the only things that sell, hero comics. To quote the great Warren Ellis;

“Its like walking into a book store and finding only novels about nurses.”

  7. Insideman says:

Since things like this drive me crazy… Readers may have noticed that the top of WIDGET pics now run outside the top of the widget boxes… This, as usual, is all the fault of WordPress. I possess just enough programming knowledge to know NOT to fuck with it.

About every two months, I wake up to nightmares like this… Then have to go plead with WordPress to fix their blunders. It usually takes 6 or 7 posts and as many days.

One day, we’re going to find a talented IT Guy that can help us out of these messes.

If you know anybody proficient in transferring WordPress.com sites to WordPress.org, have them write us at imjunkies@att.net

As Ebenezer Scrooge says, “I have CASH in hand.”

  8. Insideman says:

    Walking Dead News…

Premiere Episode had 10+ Million Viewers… Over 15 Million for the night.

If you have DISH and complain to them in a cogent, decent way that you want AMC/The Walking Dead… Friends tell me they will front/credit you the cost of a ROKU Box (They’re excellent, I have 2) and will also pay/credit you extra so you can Buy the New Episodes on Amazon.

I’d switch to a different service myself, but at least they are listening to the unhappy customers.

  9. Insideman says:

    WithoutFear86 should absolutely love this.

IMJ stories often get picked up by various Paper.Li papers across the world. The other day the IMJ Open Thread was also picked up by a Paper.Li site (we love it when that happens too) and this is how the link appeared on the Paper:

  10. Insideman says:

We’ve mentioned this on Twitter but wanted to be sure everyone reading the site knew that Yesterday, 10.14.12 was IMJ’s Biggest Hit Day Ever! 51,266 Unique Hits!

Both Jose and I would like to personally thank every reader and member of the IMJ Nation™!

You people BLEW PAST AWESOME a long, long time ago!

  11. dimaman15 says:

Sorry back onto “Homeland.” The most recent episode, “State of Independence,” was amazing. Within the first five minutes I was already at the edge of my seat. Claire Danes delivers another excellent performance and reminds people why she won an Emmy.

    • J. says:

Agreed. Danes does an amazing job on there and yesterday’s episode was quite brutal to her. I kinda saw what was going to happen to her at the meeting coming but not what happened later when she was at home.

I nearly lost my shit when Saul was searched at the very beginning of the episode. Anything can happen on the show. The hour flies by way too fast while I watch it.
