New Feature… Brought you to you by the two dozen+ people who want to see “the stack” every week.

I am 100% certain that 99% of the requests came from people who want to be able to point at these weekly pictures (with their significant other nearby) and say, “Look, Honey! I’m nowhere near as bad as this idiot!” :D

  2. IronMuskrat says:

Thanks a lot Ian, now I’m suffering from stack envy!

  3. M. Fewko says:

Sailor Twain just sounds awesome. IDK what its even about!

  4. Locusmortis says:

My monthly stack is about a quarter of the size of that :P

I do see a few items that I previewed though, I guess you do have good taste after all ;)

      I wasn’t kidding when I said you’ve “cost” me at least $400. ;)

You got a deal having that Chris Ware boxed book shipped overseas.

And in fairness (to myself) lots of the books are just making sure I keep up with the industry… Or they wouldn’t be sitting there.

I’m also really looking forward to Once Upon A Time Machine. That looks right up your alley, LM.

  5. It always warms my heart so see more indy books then Marvel books especially when the Marvel books are non-superheroes..double win..

If I had to choose one book it would be Tomine’s New York Drawings….Chris Ware’s Building Stories looks fascinating but I am not sure what to do with it(I never read Smartest Kid)

    • Insideman says:

Hack/Slash, I’ve had weeks with 8 Marvel books and 1 DC book. So I am sure there will be weeks that disappoint you. :)

That said, I always buys LOTS of Independent Books… And I think supporting these publishers usually more than make up for my buying some “unfortunate” mainstream books.

But all that will soon change if Marvel goes through with their Uncanny Avengers HC pricing test. Like I said in my 10.10.12 Pull List , I have ZERO PROBLEM never buying Marvel Comics HCs and GNs again if they raise their prices outrageously. I don’t mind paying the same price everybody else pays for single comics (even though Hardcovers and Trades are reprints of first-run material)… But I refuse to pay $6.25 USD for a single comic just because it is in a Hardcover format. Much as I love the sturdier covers, they are NOT worth an extra $8 to $10 dollars a piece.

One Question Hack/Slash: How are the DC hardcovers– without the Plastic Shrink Wrap– faring with their trips overseas? I’m curious if shop owners have been complaining about extra damages, etc.

      • My local comic store mostly complains about the Dutch distribution center when it comes to damaged goods because they are responsible for filtering out the damaged goods from overseas..I do see them always looking in the insides for faults..so maybe its more time consuming for them…To get a sound answer I should know how they cope at the distribution center….(how is Amazon when shipping DC hardcovers?)

I wanted to get the Legend of the Dark Knight Alan Davis hardcover that came out this week but it was one big mess of misprinted pages…and those books did make it to the LCS so I guess they do have a solid reason to complain.

        • Insideman says:

My retailer didn’t offer the Alan Davis HC (guess they found out about the problems quickly). That’s why we didn’t list in the Shipping This Week release list here… Until they get the new printing, of course.

I have no idea how Amazon ships DC Hardcovers now. I wouldn’t dare try with no shrink wrap on them.

      • I gave an uncomfortable huge stack of comics away to a customer/client today…He told me he read a comic book from time to time and because basically nobody reads comic books I targeted him as my victim, ..He got

        Alpha Girl 1 & 2 (Image)
        Graveyard of Empires 1-4 (Image)
        Activity 1(Image)
        Samurai;s Blood 1-6(Image)
        Screamland 1-5(Image)
        Dust Wars 1-3(Image)
        Chopper 1 (Asylum Press)
        Ducktales 1-4(Boom!)
        Dark X-Men 1-5(Marvel)
        Age of Heroes 1-4(Marvel)
        Ghostrider 0.1 (Marvel)
        X-Men Poptopia TPB (Marvel)
The Order Vol 2 TPB (Marvel)
        Wyatt Earp 1-3(Radical)
        I.C.E. 1-3 (12 Gauge)
        Phazer 1-4(RZG Comics)
and a couple of doubles, one shot and annuals

I did warn him its mostly pretty shitty :-) .

There was a period in time where I bought many small press books…a sort of experimenting phase,.bored with Marvel/ DC…From that experience I got the impression Image is publishing too many new series..not all of them are good…and a lot of small publishers are small for a reason because series like Phazer(RZG Comics) and I.C.E. (12 Gauge) truelly broadened my horizon of crapiness in comics.,,,My advice is to be weary when you consider a Superhero Comic from an “unknown” publisher….its more miss then hit.

That’s why I think Art Previews are a must. I just need a few pages to make up my mind. I don’t want to read the whole thing on the computer anyway.

I always find it fairly funny that I usually DON’T enjoy the Fantagraphics books that I don’t get to see a preview of first. When I don’t, I usually get into POS* jackpots.

The Nightwing TP is a great pick.
I already wrote I’m a huge fan of Charles Burns and Adrian Tomine (http://inveteratemediajunkies.com/2012/09/02/locusmortis-previews-hits-misses-rating-comic-shop-offerings-for-septemberoctober-2012/#comments), so congrats for reading them. “Black Hole” is much better than “The Hive”, so I do suggest you to read it if you haven’t.
