Batman and Wonder Woman #30, Daytripper Deluxe Edition HC, Minimum Wage #4, Stray Bullets – Killers #2 + Wonder Woman #30
When there are five Wednesdays in any month, there are usually two crap comic book shipping weeks– as one Wednesday shipment will normally be spread over two. (Last week was one of them.) Since this week doesn’t look too bad… We still have a another crappy week waiting for us this month. My pull list this week sees Wonder Woman #30 and Minimum Wage #4 waiting for me at the shop.
One title I will be adding to my regular monthly order: Stray Bullets – Killers by David Lapham. Readers of IMJ’s Comic Book Reviews column already know the first issue was every bit as great as I thought it would be… And I very much look forward to reading Issue #2. It’s a good feeling to know you’ll have at least one great read in a week.
I know it doesn’t seem like it these days, but until a couple of years ago I was reading my fair share of DC Comics. One of my monthly favorites was Green Lantern Corps written by Peter Tomasi and drawn by Patrick Gleason. Now the pair work together on the New 52 Batman and Whoever-It-Is-This-Month team-up comic. Issue #30 co-stars Wonder Woman– which means I’m buying it. Unfortunately, I have no idea which Wonder Woman will show up. Hopefully it will be the multi-faceted hero currently starring in Brian Azzarello’s acclaimed WW run and not the godawful Geoff Johns’ version currently masquerading as Princess Diana in Justice League.
Ian is usually the one exposing the great graphic novels, but I’ll be picking one up this week too. Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon’s Vertigo mini-series Daytripper is simply one of the best comics I have ever read. I own the original issues, and I’ve read them more than a few times… But I’m picking up the Deluxe Hardcover anyway. (Daytripper is one series I don’t mind buying over and over.) Now I can leave the single issues safely in their long box… And whenever I need reminding why I still buy comics, I’ll just pull this new Hardcover off the shelf. (Sadly, I require this helpful reminder a lot more than I used to.)
